Fun February dates: 2 Ground Hog’s Day, 12 Lincoln’s Birthday (Library open) – Start of Winter Olympics, 14 Valentine’s Day, 15 Presidents’ Day (School’s out but library is open) - Anti-Valentine’s Day party for teens (3 p.m. - 5 p.m.), 16 Mardi Gras, 22 Washington’s Birthday (Library open). February is also American Heart Month, Black History Month, and Dental Health Month.  The TRIAD character word for the month is “Caring”.

Need Help With Taxes??  Forms are available at the library and assistance is available from AARP Tax-Aide, the nation's largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service available to taxpayers with low- and moderate-income, with special attention to those who are 60 and older. The closest Tax-Aide site is the Senior Services Center at 420 E. Main St, Collinsville, IL open Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 15th. No appointment is necessary. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 TRI-TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY SNAPSHOT: ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF ILLINOIS LIBRARIES The Tri-Township Public Library is joining libraries across the state in participating in “Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Illinois Libraries” on Wednesday, February 10 to show how important academic, public, school, and special libraries and library systems are to the state of Illinois. On February 10, Tri-Township Public Library will compile statistics, customer comments, photographs, and other data chronicling a typical library day. The results collected at Tri-Township Public Library will be added to those of other libraries across Illinois to show how libraries provide invaluable services to Illinois citizens. Tri-Township Public Library Director Victoria Hart said, “I hope our loyal patrons will stop by and be a part of this historic day. Libraries are more important than ever to our communities, and library usage is at record levels. We want all the citizens of Illinois, and particularly our Illinois lawmakers, to see what a typical day is like for an Illinois library. Lawmakers have reduced state funding that is vital to help libraries like ours maintain current programs and services much less provide new programs and services, purchase new materials, and support the delivery of materials from other libraries. We hope this ‘snapshot’ drives home the point to lawmakers that their constituents, our patrons, rely on us for critical services, and we can’t afford any more cuts in funding to libraries.” “Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Illinois Libraries” is a project of the Illinois Library Association. Feb 8: Little Me Storytime from 10:30 - 11:00.

Feb 8: Family Reading Night 6:30p.m.-8:00p.m.. Chinese New Year – Year of the Tiger. Stories, crafts and refreshments.

Feb 10: Afterschool Monarch Award Storytime for students K-3rd grade every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00.  Click on this link for details.

Feb 12: The library will open one hour late at 10:00 a.m. due to staff training.

Feb 15: Pre-school storytime for ages 3 to 6 from 10:00 to 10:45. Theme: Love.

Feb 15: Anti-Valentine’s Day party for Teens (grades 6-12). 3p.m. to 5p.m. “I’m not yours, you’re not mine, be my anti-valentine.”

Feb 19: Library will open 1 hour late at 10:00 a.m. due to Staff Training.

Feb 22: Pre-school storytime for ages 3 to 6 from 10:00 to 10:45. Theme: Olympics.

Feb 23: Lego Club at 3:30. Theme: Olympics.

Feb 24: The Lightning Thief – A Percy Jackson and the Olympians Book Party from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for grades 2nd through 6th. Olympians fans, join us for a Camp-Half Blood celebration of Percy Jackson and all his friends. We’ll have games, trivia, treats and festivities! Copies of “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordin are available at the library, so read the book before you see the movie and come join us.

BOOK SALE on Friday, Feb 5th and Saturday, Feb 20th.  The Friends of the library have a book sale on the first Friday and the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Feb 16: Register for GED CLASSES.  Classes run from February 16th to April 8th. Southwestern Illinois College hosts GED classes at the library twice a year. Classes meet in the Community Room on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. for 8 weeks. Register for the course at the first meeting. VOTER REGISTRATION.  The last day to register before the February 2nd General Primary Election is Tuesday, January 5th. The early voting period is from January 11th to January 28th.  The Primary Election will be held from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd. Your polling place is listed on your voter registration card. Voters may register at the library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Ask for Jeanne or Denise. When a person registers to vote, they must show two types of identification, one must have their current address, and they must present a photo I.D. It is also required to use the social security number (at least the last four digits) or the drivers license number.

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING. The library board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm (unless noted otherwise). The public is encouraged to attend as plans for the future of the library are discussed.
